“Utterly Splendiferous and Entirely Transcendental.”

These words were how someone on an Amazon review described the Soft Bulletin LP that was recorded live at Red Rocks with the Colorado Symphony. They also capture perfectly how I experience the Flaming Lips. Though the band doesn’t need added strings and brass to sound amazing, the symphonic treatment highlights just how good this music is. The wonderful footage of the concert in this video gives us a glimpse of what it was like to be there. I especially love the closeups of Steven and the other band members playing their butts off, during this killer performance of “What is the Light?”
