{"id":5060,"date":"2025-04-30T20:29:59","date_gmt":"2025-04-30T20:29:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/flaminglipslove.com\/?p=5060"},"modified":"2025-06-01T02:41:42","modified_gmt":"2025-06-01T02:41:42","slug":"the-music-loves-you-so-much","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/flaminglipslove.com\/?p=5060","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;The Music Loves You So Much&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I ran across an old interview with Wayne from 2019 and was struck by how Wayne was able to put into words what I find so ineffable &#8212; the joy and magic inherent in the Flaming Lips&#8217; music. Some of that magic is amplified by the band&#8217;s boundless creativity. Their imagination is so inexhaustible and takes on so many oddball forms it&#8217;s as if they are wired to the pulse of some alien planet. But beyond the props and art and innovations&#8230;.the heart of the experience is the music. Strip everything else away but the audio, and the experience is still immersive, moving, sublime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Wayne explained to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pancakesandwhiskey.com\/2019\/08\/09\/wayne-coyne-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pancakes and Whiskey<\/a>, the music opens us up to beauty even when the lyrics may be describing a harsher reality, as in the song, &#8220;Feeling Yourself Disintegrate&#8221; :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;The music is so optimistic, and so understanding, and so encouraging. I mean, sometimes people talk about our song, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/12j0Hvgy2QtAzvWbqxoTbx?si=h7gtIWTcRGyMzWW9JWBGtQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Feeling Yourself Disintegrate<\/a>,\u201d and I don\u2019t really like talking about the lyrics without the music. Because the music is giving you&nbsp;<em>so much<\/em>. The music loves you&nbsp;<em>so much<\/em>&nbsp;that you\u2019re able to confront these sometimes brutal, really painful things, because the music is like this great, warm, loving, mother blanket around you saying \u2018It\u2019s alright,\u2019 you know? And to me, to say those words without that loving blanket of beautiful music, it\u2019s like \u2013 I don\u2019t want to say those. I only&nbsp;<em>sing<\/em>&nbsp;those within the song. I don\u2019t really&nbsp;<em>say<\/em>&nbsp;them in life, because I feel like they are kind of too brutal. It\u2019s almost too brutal to believe. But music just does that. Music can open up parts of your mind that you don\u2019t quite understand. To the worst unimaginable things, music says, \u2018I understand.
